Los Angeles, CA - El pasado Sábado 6 de Diciembre se presentó la popular agrupación mexicana Belanova en el nuevo “Club Nokia” de las instalaciones del Teatro Nokia.

Los reyes del electro-pop; Denisse, Edgar y Richie, eligieron la metrópoli ciudad de Los Angeles para cerrar con broche de oro el 2008 y parte de su gira Fantasía Pop, la cual inició en Abril y hasta el momento ha consistido de apróximadamente 35 fechas.

Los recien ganadores al Grammy Latino a Mejor Album Vocal Pop, se mostraron visiblemente emocionados ante su público angelino. Ante un lleno casi total, y un corto, pero placentero repertorio, los Belanova hicieron bailar y brincar decenas de corazones de fans que se encontraban en el obstentoso lugar. En punto de las diez de la noche, los chicos de Belanova aparecieron en tarima, arrancando así su concierto con la no menos famosa “Rosa Pastel” (Dulce Beat); curiosamente una de las canciones con la cual se abrieran paso en la música internacinalmente, prosiguiendo con “Cada Qué” (Fantasía Pop), y así sucesivamente. Cabe mencionar que los compañana Sergio Madrigal , talentoso guitarrista tapatío de la agrupación Purpura Suite (banda que surge de la joven escena mexicana indie-electro).

Agradecidos como siempre por el gran apoyo que se les ha brindado a lo largo de su corta, pero éxitosa carrera musical, Belanova finalizó su concierto una hora después con “1, 2, 3, 4″ (Fantasía Pop).

Nov. 14 2008, Tijuana - Desde antes que empezara el festejo la gente ya estaba ansiosa por presenciar el show, ni el baño de cerveza que empezó a caer en la parte frontal del gigantesco escenario importo en lo absoluto para desanimar a nadie.

Las canciones de hambiente de Bob Marley, habían servido para poner a la gente de un modo pasivo, relajado, ya rolaban los cigarrillos de mota de mano en mano y las bebidas también. Mucha cerveza para en punto de las diez de la noche se apagaron las luces y sonó la canción de introducción; la clásica música del agente 007, sirvió para que el grupo entrara al escenario a prender la euforia de los presentes.
Asi fué, cuando sonaron las primeras notas y con las primeras estrofas ‘El león está escondido en el callejón” de la canción, Manuel Santillan, El León, bastó para que se desatara el baile masivo que se mantuvo a lo largo del “fabuloso” concierto que los oriundos de Buenos Aires Argentina ofrecieran el viernes 14 de Noviembre en la ciudad de Tijuana, MX.

Desde tempranas horas se percibía y se respiraba la fiesta en el aire y no era para menos, había que celebrar el regreso de una de las bandas mas queridas en México y Latino América. Y no decepcionaron, Vicentico, Sr. Flavio y el resto de la banda dieron una repasada de todos sus éxitos al igual que temas de su nueva producción que adopta el nombre de “La Luz Del Ritmo”.

Ahí estaban “Los Fabulosos Cadillacs” después de un receso de seis años, cantando para toda la gente que olvidandose de sus problemas cotidianos y los problemas de inseguridad que aquejan a la ciudad (ya que horas antes, una tremenda balacera se desato a escasas cuadras del Estadio Caliente…) bailára y creára cada una de las canciones del concierto. Con pocas palabras de intercambio entre la banda y público, el grupo navegó por su historia musical saltando de clásico en clásico ante el festejo de miles de fans entre los que se podía ver a niños, adolescentes y gente mayor de todos los estratos sociales.

“Mi novia se cayó en un pozo ciego”, “Carmela”, “Estoy harto”, “Genio del dub”, “Paquito” “Padre nuestro”, “Los condenaditos”, a la par de varios temas nuevos cómo el tema que da titulo a la nueva placa, “La luz del ritmo”, “Wake up” y “Muy temprano”.
Hubo tiempo de culto también para recordar y dedicar un tributo a Gerardo “Toto” Rotblat`s, percusionista de la banda, quien fallecido en Marzo del presente año, “Toto” había tocado con Los Cadillacs por mas de 11 años, y con un vídeo proyectado en varias pantallas gigantes al lado del escenario se pudo rendir humilde homenaje del músico donde se repasaban memorias grabadas, tocando varios instrumentos, lo cual sirvió por unos momentos para darle un “break” a la banda.

Y con la luna en plena faz del estadio, como si fuera complice del momento regresan al escenario para tocar “Siguiendo la luna” desatando la euforia de la gente y dar paso a otro set de música incluyendo, “V centenario”, “Yo no me sentaría en tu mesa”, “Calaveras y Diablitos”, ” Gitana”, “Carnaval toda la vida” y “Vasos vacíos” canción cual contaba con invitada especial; la cantante, Mimi Maura, esposa del saxofonista del grupo Sergio Rotman haciendo la parte que interpretara Celia Cruz(QEPD), en su versión original, pero sin duda el momento de la noche fue cuando cantaron “El Matador”, canción con la que se despidieron por unos momentos y ante la insistencia del respetable público, regresaron para tocar tres temas mas y ahora si despedirse definitivamente por lo menos por algún corto tiempo. Habrá que esperar que vengan a Los Angeles en el 2009, que por ley tendrán que pasar por aqui… desde ya se les espera.

NO SOLO TEQUILA SE PRODUCE EN LA PERLA TAPATIA

Troker es una banda nueva de Guadalajara que combina el jazz con funk, ska, lo electrónico y hasta la cumbia, un grupo que aunque en un principio estaba enfocado mucho mas en el jazz, ya no se limitan solo a eso, pues han ido incorporando sonidos y diferentes corrientes de la música en general.

“la banda nace de la necesidad de hacer nuestra propia música instrumental y divertirnos” nos comento Frankie, baterista y uno de los fundadores de esta propuesta experimental, el resto del grupo lo complementan Samo, bajista y contrabajista, según se requiera, Arturo ‘Tiburón” saxofonista, Gil Trompetista, Cristian en los teclados y por último el Dj Rayo quien se encarga de los scratches y sampleos.

Los Inicios
Troker tiene 5 años formados y cuentan con un disco “Jazz Vinil” el cual esta en su etapa final de promoción, ya que los chavos entrarán a grabar su segundo material muy pronto.
“Nosotros empezamos tocando en pequeños bares de Guadalajara en frente de 50 personas, luego ya eran 100 personas y así sucesivamente, de pronto empezamos a llenar los espacios y luego ya estábamos en todos los bares y lugares de moda y la propia gente nos fue pidiendo el disco y asi fue como se formalizo el proyecto”, nos dijo Frankie

Los Proyectos
Los integrantes de Troker participan en varios proyectos, como Plástiko un grupo de ska, en Evamalva otro grupo de jazz con diferentes músicos de otras bandas de Guanatos, pero sin duda el mas importante, es su proyecto Barrio Feeling, el cual consiste en llevar música a los barrios para promover e inculcar la música en los niños, las futuras generaciónes.

Las Influencias
“Tenemos mucha influencia de Medeski Martin and Wood, bandas del downtown de Nueva York, bandas instrumentales y como nos gusta mucho esa onda quisimos hacer música instrumental también, solo que mas ala mexicana”, deben saber que en el grupo no hay letras, ni cantante o vocalista, es todo instrumental.
Lo cual permite a cada uno de sus integrantes a tocar solos en todas sus presentaciones, lo que les permite demostrar sus destrezas con los instrumentos que cada uno toca.

Troker se presento el viernes pasado en Los Ángeles Theatrer Center, como parte del programa cultural “Faces Of The World”, patrocinado en parte por la Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara, con el propósito de promover la cultura y las nuevas propuestas del bello estado de Jalisco.
Verlos tocar en vivo es una experiencia alucinante pues los Troker pasan del jazz mas puro a la psicodelia total, de relajantes solos de sax a la furiosa potencia de la bateria de Frankie, para luego terminar todos juntos en un funk deliciosamente estructurado.

ATERCIOPELADOS ‘RIO’ AVAILABLE FOR SPECIAL ITUNES PRE-ORDER; ALBUM OUT OCTOBER 21ST

Iconic Colombian Group Builds Upon the Success of Latin GRAMMY-winning ‘Oye’ (2006) With New Album.

Mixed in NYC by Hector Castillo (Brazilian Girls, David Bowie, Gustavo Cerati) Aterciopelados’ highly-anticipated new album, ‘Rio’, is now available for a special iTunes pre-order, two weeks in advance of its October 21st release nationwide. Upon pre-ordering the album, fans will immediately get an exclusive track, entitled “Errante Diamante”, as well as the album’s self-titled first single, “Rio”. “Errante Diamante” (Stray Diamond) is the theme song behind “Destierro y Reparacion” (Exile and Reparation), a Colombian project focused on educational and cultural activities that will help generate an overall social consciousness about the true implications of forced displacement and how it affects the country’s entire society.

‘Rio’ finds the band aggressively building upon the creative momentum of ‘Oye’, the critically-acclaimed album that not only won them a Latin GRAMMY but also a Premio Lo Nuestro award. TIME said, “Aterciopelados’s true skill lies in its ability to take north-of-the-border musical styles… and breathe new life into them, all while giving them a distinctly Colombian sheen.”
‘Rio’ is evidence that, as VIBE put it, “For Aterciopelados, maturity has become a form of liberation.” The album was recorded in the band’s hometown of Bogotá and mixed by Héctor Castillo (Brazilian Girls, David Bowie, Gustavo Cerati) in New York City. It is an impassioned, socially conscious record with the group’s signature organic rock sound.

The album’s opener and first single is the title track, a call to action that finds Aterciopelados at a new level of creativity and musicality. It coincides with a proposed Colombian constitutional referendum that declares the country’s bodies of water deserve basic rights. “When I was growing up, the Bogotá River was considered a mythic and iconic place, and now it’s a tiny stream,” says singer Andrea Echeverri. “Musically and lyrically, the track ‘Rio’ is unlike any previous Aterciopelados song. I’m even singing in a different way than in the past. With this one, we reached an entirely new place.”

On “Bandera” (“Flag”), Aterciopelados speak out on immigration, another issue close to home. The song’s chorus is “Que quien es usted/Que donde nació/Entonces no puede entrar a esta nación” (simply: “Who are you?/Where were you born?/Therefore you can’t enter this country”). “We have toured across the world many times, yet every time, certain countries give us so much trouble when entering,” Echeverri explains. “My problems with traveling are so small compared to others across the world but I thought I could give all these people a voice.”

The album’s guests range from rapper Gloria “Goyo” Martínez (of Colombian hip hop act Choc Quib Town) on “28,” to the Andean group Kapary Walka on “Madre” and “Aguita.” Echeverri’s daughter, Milagros, makes an appearance on “Ataque de Risa.” The birth of Milagros, now six, was the primary inspiration for her critically lauded self-titled solo album. “This track was originally going to be on a children’s album I’ve been recording with Manolo, my husband, and Milagros in our home studio. With the first couple tracks, Milagros was nervous at the mic but now she approaches it with such confidence and happiness.”

Aterciopelados plan to tour the U.S. in support of ‘Rio’ in early 2009, following the birth of Andrea Echeverri’s second child. They recently completed a European tour with her pregnant belly proudly displayed. The longtime creative relationship between Echeverri and Buitrago proves to be the source for the band’s musical genius. “We have had quite a musical career, which has evolved over the years through our own identity search and experimentation, finding our own sound,” Echeverri says. “I do some things, like writing the songs and he does the other things, such as producing and imagining the musical vision for the song. We really complement each other musically in a way that works. And more important than anything, we have love and respect for each other.”

XIMENA SARIÑANA EXPERIENCES BANNER SALES AS LATIN GRAMMYS AND MTV AWARDS APPROACH

Young Mexican Singer-Actress’ Breakthrough Album Reaches
#1 on iTunes Latin and Amazon Latin Charts, #38 on Billboard Latin Chart, #11 on Billboard Latin Pop Chart and More This Week, Following Feature on National Public Radio’s “Weekend Edition”

Ximena Sariñana, the young singer-songwriter whose debut album has been a runaway success in her native Mexico, continues her rapid emergence in the U.S. This week, following a feature on National Public Radio’s “Weekend Edition with Scott Simon,” the album, Mediocre, experienced explosive sales growth, just as nominators’ ballots were being mailed in for the Latin Grammy Awards in which she has three nominations, including Best New Artist.  
The accolades this week includes:

In the upcoming Latin Grammy Awards, Sariñana is nominated for Best New Artist, Best Producer and Best Alternative Song (for “Normal”). The 9th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards will be held Thursday, November 13 at the Toyota Center in Houston, and broadcast live on the Univision Television Network at 8:00 P.M. Eastern/7:00 P.M. Central.

She is also nominated for four awards in the Los Premios MTV (the Latin MTV Awards): Artista Revelacion (Best New Artist), Mejor Artista Pop (Best Pop Artist), Mejor Solista (Best Solo Artist) and Mejor Artista Norte (Best Artist North America). The Los Premios MTV awards will air live October 16 from the Telmex Auditorium in Guadalajara, Mexico; award wins are based on votes from viewers throughout Latin America.

The nominations culminate months of growing acclaim for Sariñana, who released Mediocre July 15 in the U.S. via Sei Track International/Warner Music Latina, after achieving a level of success unprecedented for a new artist in her native Mexico: The album debuted at the top of the albums chart and remained there for five weeks, earning her Gold sales status in the recording’s first few months on sale.

The 22-year old Sariñana—who received her musical training at Berklee, having been a famous actress in Mexico since age four—has won over discerning critics, tastemakers and audiences with music that is extraordinarily mature and distinctive recording while being a unique product of her generation: Sariñana’s MySpace page has surpassed 1,000,000 views, she has been featured on the site as “Artist of the Week” twice; and she met the Brazilian composer Leo Minax, who co-wrote one of the album’s songs, via her MySpace page.

Sariñana recently made her performance on U.S. radio on the highly influential KCRW show “Morning Becomes Eclectic,” hosted by Nic Harcourt; has been the featured “Ignition Artist” on Microsoft Zune; had the Single of the Week on iTunes Latino; and spent six weeks as MTV Tr3s’ “Descubre and Download” featured artist.

A team of highly accomplished collaborators–one that evidences Sariñana’s sensibility—helped Sariñana create the recording, including Argentinean producer Tweety Gonzalez (Soda Stereo, Gustavo Cerati), and Uruguayan producer Juan Campodonico (Jorge Drexler, Bajofondo) who convinced the singer to undertake further vocal studies before interpreting songs like “Sintiendo rara” (“Feeling Weird”) by Erik Couts and “Gris” (“Gray”) by the famous Uruguayan rock band Loop Lascano. The album was recorded in Buenos Aires with a skilled ensemble of Argentine players.

Sariñana’s maturity as an artist is probably due, in part, to her having grown up in a family full of filmmakers. Her father is the famous Mexican movie director Fernando Sariñana, and her mother the screenwriter/producer Carolina Rivera.

Ximena made her first serious forays as a singer at the age of 14, in the film Amar Te Duele. Aside from her role in the film, her band Feliz No Cumpleaños (Happy Un-birthday) had a hit with a song on the movie’s best-selling soundtrack. She was already proving herself to be as influenced by Björk as by jazz.

Sariñana is especially beloved for her live show, in which her training as an actor is apparent in her charisma and theatricality. She will tour the U.S. this fall and winter in support of Mediocre; dates and cities will be announced soon.
